Win Son’s A Taiwanese American Cookbook

Win Son Restaurant and Bakery hold top spots on my list of favorite eateries in the city. The only hitch is how far away from our apartment they are! So when they launched their cookbook in 2022, I snatched it up. Recreating some beloved dishes at home has been amazing, although a few ingredients can be tricky to find, and some recipes are quite labor-intensive. Nevertheless, the payoff is fantastic—the recipes are every bit as good as what you’d enjoy at the restaurant!

I love the straightforwardness of a cucumber salad: cucumber spears mixed with garlic, salt, sesame oil, and MSG. They’re left to “marinate” for an hour, then tossed with cilantro and fried shallots before serving. It’s a flavorful and simple side for dinner, and the fried shallots add a satisfying crunch!
