1992’s Death Becomes Her – as is tradition, we always finish our Merylthon with this dark comedy – which is not only my favorite Meryl film but my all-time favorite film!
While we typically cap things off with the elixir that gives you eternal life – we’re on a budget, people, so our elixir is a dry gin martini with a little edible glitter for effect … Pretty sure it’s taking years off our lives.
This year, we decided to change things up and make Death & Co’s Bloody Mary in a nod to the scene where Ernest (passed out on the floor) is woken up by the maid after another bender with a little hair of the dog. Ernest takes a sip before complaining that it needs more vodka.
This bloody mary mix has the usual suspects – tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce, citrus juice (both lemon and lime), and hot sauce – the secret ingredient is a bit of Maggi seasoning with adds a bit more umami to the concoction.
The mix is combined with plenty of vodka, a bit more lemon juice, and garnished with a celery stalk. Ernest wouldn’t dare complain about this version!
