Claire Saffitz’s Millionaire Shortbread

While I used to obsessively watch every nominated film, this year I’ve only seen one Best Picture nominee: “Wicked.” Are there any must-see nominees I shouldn’t miss?

Although I love creating themed food and movie pairings (defying gravity soufflé, anyone?), today we’re simply enjoying Claire Saffitz’s rich, decadent Millionaire Shortbread—a dessert I’ve been promising to make for Alex since we first encountered it during our 2022 Scotland trip.

This elegant layered treat features shortbread covered with perfectly set-yet-chewy caramel and topped with chocolate. No surprise that Claire’s recipe proved flawless, with dark chocolate and a sprinkling of sea salt beautifully tempering what could otherwise be an overwhelmingly sweet dessert.

I couldn’t find the written recipe, but I followed along with the ingredients listed in her YouTube video, essentially taking a virtual cooking class from Claire herself. Best cooking class ever!
