It took a moment to get over the $9.50 sticker shock for a regular box of Rice Krispies in my neighborhood – but Eric Kim’s Black Sesame Rice Krispies Treats were very much worth it!
It’s the classic version with a few adjustments that really turn up the volume – browned butter, toasted black sesame seeds, and sesame oil add a savory accent that cuts the sweetness and makes for a delightful treat.
It’s probably been about 20 years since I last made Rice Krispies treats and I made a very rookie mistake: I pressed the treats a little too firmly in the pan leading to squares that, while still delicious, were a bit dense. I’ll know for next time … and there will be a next time.
