About Merylthon: My friend and I host an annual movie marathon featuring a lineup of Meryl Streep films paired with themed food and drinks! Get inspired for your own Merylthon with pairings for about 25 of my favorite Meryl movies here!
1986’s Heartburn – Meryl and Jack Nicholson headline this dramedy about a mismatched couple who fall in love, marry, and start a family, only to face turmoil when Jack’s character cheats. The film is adapted from Nora Ephron’s novel, which draws inspiration from her own marriage to Carl Bernstein.
As I mentioned, with so many food options in this movie I couldn’t choose just one! So, we also decided to make Clair Saffitz’s Simple Carbonara!
After a bedroom romp, Meryl hops in the kitchen at 4 am to whip up carbonara for them to eat in bed – talk about a dreamy late-night snack.
With just a few ingredients, carbonara can be a challenging dish to master, and I’ve yet to achieve perfection at home. While the flavor of this version was excellent, I think I needed to add a bit more pasta water as the dish ended up a bit dry.
That won’t stop me from trying again!
