Taste of Home’s Red Velvet Whoopie Pies

There might be some debate over the origin of whoopie pies, but as a proud Maine-iac, I’m firmly Team Maine. After all, whoopie pies are our official state treat, and South Portland even holds the record for the largest ever created – clocking in at a whopping 1,062 pounds!

The classic whoopie pie features chocolate cake filled with a sweet, creamy frosting, but I’ve always leaned toward alternative flavors like pumpkin, ginger, or blueberry.

When I spotted Taste of Home’s recipe for Red Velvet Whoopie Pies, I knew immediately I had to give them a try. The sour cream-infused cakes are perfectly moist and airy, offering just a subtle hint of chocolate. They’re generously filled with a divine cream cheese frosting, then finished with a white chocolate drizzle and chopped pecans for a bakery-worthy presentation.

This was my first time making whoopie pies, and they turned out to be easier than I expected – so get ready, because this summer is going to be full of whoopie pies!
