Caramelized. Onion. Soy. Butter.
Are you still here and not running out to buy the ingredients for Calvin Eng’s Pork and Chive Dumplings with Caramelized Onion Soy Butter? You should really rethink your priorities!
It starts with deeply golden, jammy onions, which get blended into a silky sauce with butter, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and a hint of MSG. The dumplings are filled with a savory mix of pork, scallions, and mushrooms, then boiled until perfectly tender.
Once plated, they’re drenched in that warm, umami-rich butter and topped with fresh cilantro for a burst of color and brightness. I took the store-bought is fine route and used pre-made wrappers.
You’ll be putting that butter on everything!
