The Best Pumpkin Whoopie Pies: Light, Spiced, and Perfectly Snackable

Don’t tell my fellow Mainers, but I still haven’t found a traditional whoopie pie I love. On paper they sound perfect – creamy filling sandwiched between two soft chocolate cake rounds – how bad could that be?! But the ones I’ve tried are massive and a little too sickly sweet for me.

That hasn’t stopped me from trying various versions at home, and Lauren Grant’s boozy Pumpkin Whoopie Pies might be my favorite yet. They’re the perfect fall dessert: tender and perfectly spiced with just a hint of bourbon. The cakes are light and moist from real pumpkin purée and warm spices like cinnamon, cloves, and ginger, and the bourbon-tinged cream cheese frosting adds a subtle tangy-sweet balance that keeps you coming back for another bite.

And they’re the perfect snackable size!
