My love for Win Son knows no bounds, and the latest recipe I tried from their phenomenal cookbook is Fan Tuan – a popular breakfast treat in Taiwan that’s bursting with flavor with a delightful contrast of textures.
Over-easy eggs, pork floss, youtiao (a crispy Chinese donut), pickled mustard greens, scallions, and kecap manis (sweet soy sauce) are rolled up in a layer of sticky rice and held together with plastic wrap – making them easily transportable.
Although some of the fan tuan ended up a bit messy when I rolled them, they tasted fantastic and that’s what really matters! I love that we have breakfast for the week – simply cut them in half, and squeeze them out of the plastic wrap as you eat.

TIPS
- If you prefer not to purchase kecap manis (sweet soy sauce) you can make your own as I did. Recipe here.
- To cook my sticky rice on the stovetop, I found that covering it with about an inch of water worked perfectly, even though the recipe didn’t specify the exact amount.
- When assembling, place the filling toward the edge closer to you. This makes rolling much easier.
